"Chand tanha hai asman tanha" is a ghazal by Meena Kumari in her own voice. The ghazal appeared in the album I write I recite. I write, I recite is the only recorded album of the actress wherein she recites her selected poems. The composer of the Album, the inimitable Khaiyyam has contributed his genius in crafting the poems to suit the voice of Meena Kumari. The poems are a reflection of the personal tragedy and loneliness which the Actress encountered in her own life. There is tone of melancholy in her voice as well as in the lyrics. The magic of Khiyyam adds the magic to the ghazal.

dil mila hai kahan kahan tanha
bujh gai aas chup gaya tara
thartharata raha dhuan tanha
zindagi kya isi ko kahte hain
jism tanha hai aur jan tanha
hamsafar koi gar mile bhi kahin
donon chalte rahe tanha tanha
jalti bujhti si raushani k pare
simta simta sa ek makan tanha
rah dekha karega sadiyon tak

DeleteSince, it is a hindi poetry and converting it into english you might not get the gist of it. It is a poem about a lonely soul wandering on earth, witnesing ups and downs of relationships, and leaving the world at the end alone...
Since you wanted the lyrical meaning it goes something like this....
alone is the moon, sky is lonely again
hearts I have met so many dwelling places, lonely too
hopes are lost, stars hidden
smokes kept shivering, alone.
is this what we call love
body is alone, soul - alone
even if came along somebody
we kept on walking our paths alone
beyond these flickering lights
shrinked seems a home alone
your eyes will be on the road for years searching for me
the day I leave this world, alone.
