Yaad Piya Ki Aaye by Mohammad Amaan

We have had a post on the song Yaad Piya Ki Aaye by the maestros like Wadali Brothers and Shobha Gurtu. Here i share with you the song in a fresh young voice of Mohammad Amaan, a 20 year contestant in the singing reality show Saregamapa that airs on Zee tv. In earlier post i've shared his another song Apni Garaj Pakar Leene also. Though he is young by age but his voice is as mature as the masters. He has sung the thumri beautifully, let it be the technical aspect or the feel.

Ishq Anokhri by Shqfqat Ali Khan

It is a different experience to listen to the song Ishq Anokhri. Ustad Shafqat Ali Khan  has given his voice to the song which is in the form of Multani kaafi. It's a sufi poetry of eternal love and union with the Divine. The poet of the song is Hazrat Khawaja Ghulam Fareed. Being a sufi song, many singers have given their voice to the song. This song by Shafqat Ali Khan was sung in a performance for the BBC urdu. Shafqat Ali Khan has a different approach to the sufi songs and that makes this song a wonderful composition. Though the lyrics are  incomprehensible due to being in Punjabi (perhaps, i am not sure), yet the singing and style is a great experience.

He has a unique kind of voice and a style that is very enchanting and has a charisma to spellbound you.

Nadiya Kinaare Mora Gaon by Shafqat Ali Khan

Nadiya Kinaare Mora Gaon is a traditional song that has been sung by a lot of singers over the time. The song sung by Shafqat Ali Khan is one of the best performances of the song. This song was sung by his father also. The song, sung in a semi-classical style, is a yearning of a lover to his/her beloved. Shafqat Ali Khan has sung it very fine and showed his range of singing.

Lyrics:

Sanwariya more aaja re
Tum bin bhayee main udaas re
Aaja re O!
Nadiya kinare mora gaon
Nadiya kinare mora gaon
Aaja re more sanwariya aaja
Aaja re more sanwariya aaja
Nadiya kinare mora gaon

Sajan preet laga ke
Ab door desh mat ja
Aa bas hamre nagar mein
Are hum maange tu khaa
Nadiya kinare mora gaon..

Oonchi atariya chandan kiwadiya
Radha sakhi re mero naam

Nadiya kinare mora gaon..

Na main maangu sona chaandi
Are mangun tose preet
Balma maika chhod gaye
Yahi jagat ki reet
Nadiya kinare mora gaon..

Saans lena bhi ek aadat hai by Bhupinder

Gulzar is known as the wizard of words; you read his poetry or listen the lyrics penned by him and you recognize that it can only be him. Saans lena bhi kaisi aadat hai is a nazm that has been written by Gulzar and sung by Bhupinder. I've added the song to the blog for my sheer admiration towards Gulzar.

Lyrics:

Saans lena bhi kaisi aadat hai,
Jiye jana bhi kya rivayat hai.

Koi aahat nahi badan mein kahin,
Koi saya nahi hai ankhon mein,
Pal guzarte hain thahre-thahre se
Jiye jaate hain jiye jaate hain

Paon be-hiss hain chalte jaate Hain,
Ek safar hai jo bahta rahta hai,

Kitnay barson se, Kitni sadiyon se,
Jiye jaate hain, jiye jaate hain

Woh to na mil sake hume by Mehdi Hassan

"Woh to na mil sake hume" is a melodious ghazal by the great ghazal singer Mehdi Hassan. The lyrics of the song were penned by Nasir Kazmi. Though the lyrics are somewhat average but the skillful singing of the ghazal maestro makes the ghazal a melodious composition that compels you to listen again and again. The simple yet very effective use of Harmonium and Tabla is noteworthy.

Lyrics:

Woh to na mil sake hume rusvaiyan mili
Lekin hamare ishq ko ranaiyan mili

Aankhon mein unki doob ke dekha hai baarahaan

Jinki thi aarzoo na woh gahraaiyaan mili

Aaina rakh ke saamne aawaz di use

Uske bagair jab mujhe tanhaaiyaan mili

Aaye the woh nazar mujhe phoolon ke aas paas
Dekha kareeb jake to parchhaiyan mili

Poochha jo dil ki maine tabahi ka maajra
Has kar jabab mein mujhe angdaiyan mili

Nasir dil-e-tabah na unko dikha saka
Milne ko baarahaan use tanhaiyan mili

Apni Garaj Pakar Leene Baiyaan Mori by Mohammad Amaan

Apni Garaj Pakar Leene Baaiya Mori is a traditional song that has been sung in a classical style by many singers. Earlier I've posted the same song sung by Jagjit Singh in classical style. But here we're going to listen the song in the voice of Mohammad Amaan, a just 20 year old contestant in Saregama 2012 from Rajasthan. Though Amaan is only 20 years old his maturity in singing matches to the well trend and experienced classical singers. Besides, generally you may not like the hardcore classical singing if you're not well versed or used to such style, but here i bet you would like it very much.

Ye Kaun Aata Hai Tanhaiyon Mein Jaam Liye
Dilon Mein Chaandni Raaton Ka Ehtemaam Liye
Chatak Rahi Hai Kisi Yaad Ki Kali Dil Mein
Nazar Mein Raqs-E-Bahaaran Ki Subha Shaam Liye
Mahek Mahek Ke Jagati Rahi Naseem-E-Saher
Labon Pe Yaar-E-Masiha Nafas Ka Naam Liye
Kisi Khayal Ki Khushboo Kisi Badan Ki Mahek

Woh Teri Yaad Thi Ab Yaad Aaya

Mar Rahenge Agar Ab Yaad Aaya
Baith Kar Saaya-e-Gul Mein Nasir
Hum Bahot Roye Woh Jab Yaad Aaya

The lyrics by Waseem Barelvi have been kept simple but are heart touching. The expression of love is quite beautiful.

You may listen the song online by clicking here. or by clicking below on the video:

Lyrics:

Tu Amber Ki Ankh Ka Tara
Mere Chhote Hath
Sajan Main Bhool Gai Ye Baat

Tujh Ko Saare Man Se Chaha,
Chaha saare Tan Se
Apne Pure Pan Se Chaha
Aur Adhurey Pan Se
Pani Ki Ek Boond Kahan Aur Kahan Bhari Barsat
Sajan Main Bhool Gai Ye Baat

Janam Janam Mangungi Tujhko Tu Mujhko Na Thukraana,
Main Maati Mein Mil Jaaungi Tu Maati Ho Jaana,
Lehar Ke Aage Kya Ek Chote Tinke Ki Auqaat
Sajan Main Bhool Gai Ye Baat

Teri Oor Hi Dekha Mene Apni Oor Na Dekha,
Jab Jab Badhna Chaha Paaon Se Lipti Lachman Rekha,
Main Apne Bhi Saath Nahi Thi Tere Duniya Saath,
Sajan Main Bhool Gai Ye Baat

Surmayi shaam ke ujaalon se by Runa Laila

Surmayi shaam ke ujaalon se is sad melancholic song by Runa Laila, a Bangladeshi singer. The song appeared in the album Bazm-E-Laila. Runa Laila has sung in India, Pakistan and BangladeshThis beautiful song speaks of a yearning for an emotion and time which is lost. The song gives you a feeling as you hear a voice in remote that simply touches your heart by it's sadness of remembering the loved one.

Lyrics:

Chal mere saath hi chal by Ustad Ahmed Hussain & Mohd. Hussain

"Chal mere saath hi chal" is a ghazal from the album Guldasta. The lyrics of the song has been written by Hasrat Jaipuri. The ghazal may not have something extraordinary but it's simplicity and lyrics would compel you to listen it. Thus with simple lyrics, sung in equally simpler soothing relaxed tone Ustad Ahmed Hussain & Mohd. Hussain create a magic with their rough but pleasing voice.

Lyrics:

chal mere saath hi chal ai meri jaan-e-ghazal

kab hai badla ye zamana, tu zamane ko badal, chal

pyar sachcha ho to rahein bhi nikal aati hain

baat banti hai agar dil mein irade hon atal, chal

Tu mere saath na chal by Ustad Ahmed Hussain & Mohd. Hussain

"Tu mere saath na chal" is a ghazal from the album Zindagi the life. The lyrics has been penned down by the hindi-urdu poet and lyricist Hasrat  Jaipuri. The ghazal has been sung by the duo Ustad Ahmed Hussain & Mohd. Hussain. The ghazal is very akin to their ghazal Chal mere saath hi chal in it's lyrics and singing style. Alike the said ghazal, it would also be a good song to listen.

Lyrics:

Tu Mere Saath Na Chal E Meri Rooh-E-Gazal,
Log Badnaam na kar de_n Tu Iraadon Ko Badal.

Maine Maana Ki Bahut Pyar Kiya Hai Tune
Saath Hi Jine Ka Ikraar Kiya Hai Tune
Maan Le Baat Meri, Dekh Tu Is Raah Na Chal

Tu Mere Saath Na Chal E Meri Rooh-E-Gazal,
Log Badnaam na kar de_n Tu Iraadon Ko Badal.

Saath Dekhene To Phir Log Kahenge Kya Kya
Sochle Sochle Ilzaam Dharenge Kya Kya
E Meri Parda Nashi Dekh Na Parde Se Nikal,

Tu Mere Saath Na Chal E Meri Rooh-E-Gazal,
Log Badnaam na kar de_n Tu Iraadon Ko Badal.

Apni Ulfat Pe Kabhi Aanch Na Aa Jaye Kahin
Teri Ruswayi Ho Ye Baat Ganwara Hi Nahi
Dekh Nadan Na Ban, Hosh Me Aa, Yun Na Machal

Tu Mere Saath Na Chal E Meri Rooh-E-Gazal,
Log Badnaam na kar de_n Tu Iraadon Ko Badal.

Yaad Piya Ki Aaye by Wadali Brothers

The duo Wadali Brothers have a unique kind of voice. Pyarelal Wadali have a sharp and shrill voice, whereas Puranchand Wadali has somewhat husky and heavy voice which is more like a classical singer. As we have discussed earlier "Yaad Piya Ki Aaye", the famous thumri sung and composed by Bade Ghulam Ali Khan is a beautiful composition, and it has been sung by a lot of singers over the time. This live version of Yaad Piya Ki Aaye by Wadali Brothers is one of my favorite versions of this song. The voice of Puranchand Wadali makes a difference here. His singing is really superb.

Yun na mil mujhse khafa ho jaise by Mehdi Hassan

Mehdi Hassan, the classical ghazal singer sang a hundred of ghazals in his lifetime in various mehfils and films. Each of his song is like a gem and surprises you with his singing which is though the most classical in ghazal singers yet with such ease that it seems to be spontaneous overflow of sur and mausiki. Yun na mil mujhse khafa ho jaise is one of that sort of ghazals. Lyrics by Ehsaan Danish are simply superb. Lyrics, Singing and Tabla altogether have a mesmerizing effect on listeners.

Lyrics:

Yun Na Mil Mujhse Khafa Ho Jaise,
Saath Chal Mauj-E-Saba Ho Jaise,

Hichkiyaan Raat Ko Aati Hi Rahi,
Tune Phir Yaad Kiya Ho Jaise,

Aise Anjaan Bane Baithe Ho
Tumko Kuch Bhi Na Pata Ho Jaise

Ishq Ko Shirk Ki Had Tak Na Badha,
Yun Na Mil HuMse Khuda Ho Jaise,

Maut Bhi Aayi To Is Naaz Ke Sath,
Mujhpe Ehsaan Kiya Ho Jaise,

Zindagi Beet Rahi Hai Danish,
Ek BejurM Saza Ho Jaise...

Faasle aise bhi honge by Ghulam Ali

Faasle aise bhi honge by is one of the most famous ghazals of Ghulam Ali. The lyrics of the ghazal has a beauty which translates into melody with the superb singing of Ghulam Ali. The ghazal has been sung many a times in mahfils by Ghulam Ali. There is one characteristic of Ghulam Ali that he may be singing a sad song but he has always sung it lightly and you're spellbound by his singing. Listen one of the best songs of him:

Lyrics:

Yehi ek rah gayi hai mere pyar ki nishani

Faasle aise bhi honge ye kabhi socha na tha
Saamne baitha tha mere aur vo mera na tha

Woh ki khushbu ki tarah phaila tha mere chaar suu
Main usse mahsus kar saktaa tha chhu saktaa na tha

Raat bhar pichhli hi aahat kaan mein aati rahi
Jhaank kar dekha gali mein koi bhi aaya na tha

Yaad karke aur bhi takleef hoti thi adeem
Bhool jaane ke siva ab koi bhi chaara na tha
