Besides the tremendous singing of Ghulam Ali, the lyrics are quite simple as well as interesting. The composition has been made as simple as the lyrics of the song which perfectly convey the mood of the song.

This beautiful poetry "Phir Mujhe Deeda-E-Tar Yaad Aaya" was written by the great Mirza Ghalib. This has been composed in different tunes and sung by various singers over the time. The song by Mehdi Hassan is from the album Ghalibnama. The aalap in this version is by Tarannum Naaz. Soft recital of his songs and singing them in pure classical style is the characteristic of Mehdi Hassan. I love this ghazal and it's composition which is typical Mehdi Hassan style.
"Ab ke hum bichde" is one of the most famous ghazals by Mehdi Hassan who is famously known as the "King of Ghazal". Almost every person whosoever like ghazals and Mehdi Hassan must have heard it. Penned by Ahmad Faraz, the ghazal is really melodious. The use of sarangi in the song is marvelous and enchanting. The voice of Mehdi Hassan syncs so well with the sound of Sarangi that it seems one sound only. Here I share a live version of the song which i found the longest one on web. To listen to live recordings is always a different experience.

Sainya badesi ghar aaja re is a Mishra Des Thumri by Ghulam Ali. The song appeared in the album Saiyan Badesi Ghar Aaja Re (Thumri). Ghulam Ali , who has sung it, is prominently known for the ghazals. But he has been quite a versatile singer, who not only has sung Ghazals in semi-classical style but has some classical thumris such asQadra na jaaniand Saiyan badesi ghar aaja re. The Thumri, Saiyan badesi ghar aaja re, is in some unorthodox style and that is the best thing about it. Ghulam Ali not only has simplified the style of the thumri but also made it sound quite light (sugam sangeet style) for the people who may not understand or relish the pure classical form of Thumri. Though I couldn't find the lyricist of the song but no doubt the lyrics are simple and beautiful.
"Qadra na jaani" is a traditional thumri which has been sung by Ghulam Ali. Though there is not much lyrics in the 28 minutes long thumri, it is the variation of his singing that makes it a complete song. Ghulam Ali has performed it in a different style of classical singing. He starts with the Qadra na jani and ends the thumri with Yaad piya ki aaye. There is a very good and effective use of Tabla and Saraghi. All the people who love thumri and specially like the live performance would definitely like to listen this song.
"Kahin Ek Masoom, Naazuk Si Ladki" is my one of the most favorite old bollywood songs. The song is from the movie Shankar Hussain which perhaps is known only for the song Kahin ek Masum Nazuk si Lardki. Mohammad Rafi has rendered his beautiful voice to the song. The best thing about this song is it's composition and recording. The song has been composed by the great music composer Khaiyyam. The song has such an everlasting effect that it rings in your ears even long after you listen to it. The beautiful lyrics by Jan Nisar Akhtar makes it magical. The simplicity of the lyrics makes the song an all time hit.

"Tukde tukde din beetaa" is an another ghazal from the album I write I recite, sung and penned by Meena Kumari and composed by the legendary music composer Khaiyyam. The ghazal is sung in the manner of a soliloquy as she is sitting all alone and giving words to her grief. The intermittent use of sitar in the song which is the characteristic of khaiyyam can also be seen in the song.

"Chand tanha hai asman tanha" is a ghazal by Meena Kumari in her own voice. The ghazal appeared in the album I write I recite. I write, I recite is the only recorded album of the actress wherein she recites her selected poems. The composer of the Album, the inimitable Khaiyyam has contributed his genius in crafting the poems to suit the voice of Meena Kumari. The poems are a reflection of the personal tragedy and loneliness which the Actress encountered in her own life. There is tone of melancholy in her voice as well as in the lyrics. The magic of Khiyyam adds the magic to the ghazal.
One more beautiful song by Piyush Mishra. The song is from the movie Gangs of Wasseypur-I. The album is one of the most versatile album of the year and it got all the praises for its experimentation and uniqueness. Sneha Khanwalkar has given the music of the album. "Ik bagal mein chaand hoga" is sung and penned by Piyush himself, stands out for the lyrics. The base setting of the song will remind you of old 60s or 70s tracks. Flute and Sitar talk between themselves and put you at ease immediately and then the strong bass creates a perfect platform for Piyush Mishra (PM) to start what is probably the most powerful song (in terms of effect that it will leave on you) of the film. "O Ri Duniya" is a soundtrack from the movie Gulaal, which has been written, composed and sung by Piyush Mishra. Piyush Mishra is known for a distinguished sort of music and he proves it each time he's assigned a project. Duniya, a track where he pays tribute to Guru Dutt's Pyaasa and yet stays wonderfully, poetically original. The song is both a lovesong and a lament, an observation and an ode. When he mentions Ghalib, Momin, Majaaz, Faiz, Firaakh, Sahir, Makhdoom, Mir, Zauk in the song, you feel like to give him a standing ovation for such a poetry. The composition is literally superb and i hope everyone would love it.
